“It is very important to take care of the wellbeing and the spiritual nourishments of the Children”
Facilitators’ meeting was held on 22nd August 2022, with a gathering of 17 teachers at the Ceylon Bible Society.  Many thoughts, ideas and suggestions were shared by the teachers during this meeting. Since it has been six months since we started the Literacy Project in Sri Lanka as a Pilot project, we are able to see the progress of our classes we had started. We now have 81 children and 20 teachers in the 9 literacy classes. The main purpose of this meeting was to make teachers aware of the new learnings received from the training programme conducted by Mr. Mansueto Casquite, Literacy Advisor (Asia-Pacific), Global Ministry Exchange.
The main outcomes of this meeting were :
• Teachers shared their exercises that they had with the children during the Literacy classes
• The Ceylon Bible Society was able to understand the challenges and difficulties the teachers and children are facing and how to solve them.
• Teachers shared the innovative techniques and methods they used to teach the children in an interesting way of teaching.
• We were able to give solutions to the questions raised by the teachers and motivated them to continue the lessons.  Here are some of the questions raised by the teachers.
o How to give concentration to each child if there are 4 or 5 children allocated to one teacher.
o What should we tell the children if they like to come to the Literacy classes without going to the Buddhist temple on Sunday?
Our main aim is to develop the reading, listening and writing skills of each participant at least within a year, especially for those children who have missed school. Through this project we want them to reach a better standard so that they can help others who need help.  Most of all we want them to read and write the WORD of God without any difficulty.
