“AMIDST TEARS OF JOY THEY GRABBED THE PACKS OF DRY RATIONS GIVEN TO THEM AND SAID THAT THEY CAN SURVIVE A LONG PERIOD OF TIME WITH ALL WHAT WAS IN THE PACKAGE”
Humanitarian food items distribution to the poor people in Sri Lanka funded by the Singapore Bible Society
We are indeed thankful to the Singapore Bible Society for their generous support given to the Ceylon Bible Society, especially at this crucial time with full of uncertainties. We are delighted and are grateful to the Management of the Singapore Bible Society who have decided to make a special grant towards the project of humanitarian food items distribution to the poor people in Sri Lanka and to all those who are going through a difficult economic crisis at the moment.
This means so much to us at this particular moment. We are very happy to inform that we were able to continue to help the poor people of Sri Lanka by distributing dry rations to children’s homes and poor families in Sri Lanka. As a National Bible Society, the aim of our Ministry is to serve the people of this land in bringing the Word of God to them.
The current state of affairs in our country leaves much to be desired. Financial crisis was brewing for some time which caused much hardship to the common man in Sri Lanka. Families are severely traumatized and are under enormous pressure trying to find money to feed their families. There are cases where people are unable to bear the pressure and therefore commit suicide.
Right in the middle of this very crucial moment the Management of Singapore Bible Society stepped in by extending their support by way of a special grant which enabled us to provide the much needed food to hundreds of families who were dying of hunger with just one or two meals a day. So many families had hardly had a meal of rice let alone see it in a long time.
Amidst tears of joy they grabbed the packs of dry rations given to them and said that they can survive a long period of time with all what was in the package. They just couldn’t believe their eyes at what they had received.
They blessed the givers, the Singapore Bible Society, that they will remember them all their lives for their good deed, because they believed that the work of the Bible Society was to distribute Bibles and such materials all over the world.
This is really the hardest and saddest time in Sri Lanka’s history. With trust in God we are all earnestly praying for the country, especially for the leaders who even at this late stage will come to their senses and will try to find a solution to solve the people’s problems to overcome their sufferings. People are definitely not able to bear with this suffering any longer, because it seems to have reached a climax!
