“God’s word endures forever. The Holy Bible says God spoke in the beginning.” Now it has become so very real through this Project.”
We are very happy to inform you that the NRSV 3rd Edition’s Sinhala Audio Bible Recording project was started on the 28th of June 2021 at EV Creations Studio in Moratuwa under the supervision of Revd. Priyantha Wijegoonawardena , General Secretary of the Ceylon Bible Society & the Media Team. This mission was started at the request of the Blind community when we visited them. They said that it requires vast amount of space to store volumes of Braille Bibles, and if it was at all possible, they wanted us to do an Audio Bible as it would be so easy for them to use and store. This set us thinking and we got started on this project. Thereafter we decided to do the recording of the Audio Bible in Sinhala language.
Rt. Rev. Dushantha Lakshman Rodrigo, Bishop of Colombo, graced this occasion as the Chief guest at the Opening Session of our Audio Bible Recording on the 28th of June and graciously blessed the Mission and dedicated the project into God’s hands. Rev. Fr. Sameera Damith Fonseka – OMI – Director of St. Vincent’s Technical School, Maggona of was the special invitee at the Opening Ceremony of this Event.
The Ceylon Bible Society is passionate about making the Bible more accessible for the thousands in Sri Lanka with a disability, through Braille Bibles and Audio Bibles under the theme for 2021 which is “People with Special Needs”; those who cannot access the written Bible.
The Ceylon Bible Society has catered to the widest possible, effective and meaningful distribution of the Holy Scriptures by helping people interact with the word of God. The New Revised Sinhala Version, 3rd Edition Copy Edited Bible 2019, was translated into Braille Bible and was completed in 2020 and is ready for distribution soon.
Please pray that this project will progress successfully in spite of the difficulties we encounter with the COVID 19 pandemic in Sri Lanka.
