“Year for People with Special Needs – 2021”

Jesus himself sought after the people with various needs and gave them priority instead of waiting for them to come to Him.

Dedication Service for the “Year for People with Special Needs” and First Working Day Prayers was conducted on 4th January 2021 at 8.30 a.m. at the CBS Auditorium.

Guest Preacher Bro. Prasad Perera,  President of the CBS Mr. Eraj Wijesinghe and General Secretary Rev. Priyantha Wijegoonawardena along with some members of the staff and a few tenants were present at the service.
Members of the General Council of CBS and some staff as well as UBS facilitators participated on zoom.
The theme of the CBS for this year was “Year for People with Special Needs”. The program commenced with an opening prayer being said by Rev. Dr. Ponnaiah Joseph, Vice President of the CBS & Bishop of Batticaloa, who prayed for God’s blessing upon CBS as they dedicated this year to meet the needs of the differently abled people.

This was followed by a theme video on Year for People with Special Needs.
President Mr. Eraj Wijesinghe welcomed the invitees and members of the CBS staff to the service, after which the Guest Preacher Bro, Prasad Perera presented the message which was based on the theme of the year “Year for People with Special Needs”. Message was relevant to what the Lord Jesus did when He was on this earth, where Jesus himself sought after the people with various needs and gave them priority instead of waiting for them to come to Him. He also prayed and dedicated the CBS staff for strength and courage to carry out their work.

Thereafter there was greetings from UBS Facilitators on zoom for the CBS staff encouraging and wishing them for their work in the year 2021. The following greetings were via zoom:

  • Dr. Simon Wong – Global Translation Advisor of the Ceylon Bible Society
  • Dr. Julian Sundersingh, Ministry of Resource Facilitator & Global Literacy Coordinator Global Ministry Exchange.
  • Dr. Arun Sok Nhep, Ministry Resources Facilitator, Team Leader Asia Pacific, Translation Roadmap Coordinator Asia Pacific, Global Ministry Exchange/Bible Ministry

The Service ended with a Vote of Thanks from Rev. Priyantha Wijegoonawardena, General Secretary of the CBS.

Closing Prayer and Benediction was given by Rt. Rev. Dusantha Rodrigo, Bishop of Colombo and the Patron of the CBS, via zoom.
To depict “The Year for People with Special Needs” the Lord’s Prayer was done in Sign language by Rev.Sis,Damayanthi.

Hymn for Sri Lanka was sung to bring the beautiful program to a close.
It was a program of Beauty of Holiness, surrounded with an array of flowers to usher the New Year 2021 and call upon the Blessings of the Almighty God on the Work and Ministry of the Ceylon Bible Society.
