” In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Acts 20:35 – ESV
Acts 20:35 – ESV
On Friday 26th October 2018 at 1.45pm, 7 members of the Women’s Committee, 7 members of the Staff of the Ceylon Bible Society and the General Secretary, Rev. Priyantha Wijegoonewardena set off to Pamunugama in the CBS van. On arrival we were welcomed by the Manager, Rev. Sunil Hettiarachchi and the inmates who were eagerly waiting for us. The program commenced with an opening prayer followed by praise and worship. We were impressed with Nimmi one of the inmates who played the organ to all the choruses which the CBS had prepared. The General Secretary gave a brief message in Sinhala which suited the inmates. This was followed by a quiz. A CBS staff member asked Bible based questions and the first inmate to answer was given a token of gift. We realized that they were knowledgeable and sincere too, as each inmate didn’t want to accept the second gift although they were able to answer more than one question. In fact they preferred to give it to another. Anyway all the inmates receive gifts. Inoka, one of the inmates danced while all of us kept clapping along with the music. The magic show was so exciting and the inmates enjoyed thoroughly. The magician blended well with the inmates as he himself was a special needs person. It was strange how he picked out a dumb inmate like himself to partner him during his performance. The short eats and tea that was served during the program which was appreciated by all, and the two volunteer nurses were grateful to be presented with cash gifts. The program ended with a closing prayer. At 5.30pm when it was time to leave we sadly bid bye to each other. The inmates insisted that we come again. It was a successful ministry trip done with unity and love along with generous contributions from some of the WC members, and organized by Marcia, Sugi and Wilakshitha with the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
