The 26th Festival of Choirs organized by the Ceylon Bible Society celebrating the 206th Anniversary of the Ceylon Bible Society was held on 1st of August 2018 at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Colombo 07.
Rev. Fr. Jayanath Panditharatne , Vicar – Christ Church, Mutwal Mission & Mrs. Priyanthi Panditharatne graced the occasion as the chief guests.
The Opening Hymn was “To God be the Glory”. The Opening Prayer was offered by Mr. Eraj Wijesinghe , President of CBS and the welcome speech was given by Rev. Priyantha Wijegoonawardena, the General Secretary of the CBS. The offertory prayer was offered by Mrs. Dinali Abeyesundere, President, Women’s Committee of CBS. The Bible reading was from Psalm 105 : 1-6 read by Ms. J.S.Melanie Stephen, former staff member of CBS.
Mr. Sriyantha Senaratne Immediate past President of CBS and Mrs. Lakshani P. Fernando, former General Secretary of CBS were appointed as Life Governors of the Ceylon Bible Society by Rt. Rev. Dhiloraj R.Canagasabey, Bishop of Colombo and Patron of CBS.
The Choirs that participated were , Bishop’s College & St. Joseph’s College of Colombo, St. Sebastian’s College & St Matthias Church of Moratuwa, “The Priest” Choir, Voice of Praise Chamber Choir, All Saint’s Church, Pettah and St. Anthony’s College Katugastota.
The closing prayer and Benediction was offered by Rt. Rev. Dhiloraj R. Canagasabey Bishop of Colombo Patron of the Ceylon Bible Society. The final Hymn was the “Hymn for Ceylon” after which the service ended. The programme was compered by Mrs. Daphne Charles and Mr. Mewan Peiris.
We thank God for the faithfulness He has shown us during the past 26 years in conducting this programme in a Spiritual manner to bring Praise and Glory to Him.
